2016-2017

Riverside All Ability Path

The Riverside Path was completed in the early spring of 2017 by Fion Construction. Our aim was to upgrade the existing path to a standard suitable for all abilities creating a meandering route through riparian woodland, landscaped to blend in with the environment but be robust enough to accept everything from mountain bikes to mobility scooters and the high rainfall we experience in Lochaber.

The existing woodland walk was unsuitable for people who were not so able on their feet so the idea to make this lower area of the Glen more accessible was generally well looked on.

The new path and bridge has been used from the start by all age groups and abilities and has been an instant, popular success.
This project was delivered by Highland Council and Nevis Landscape Partnership, and funded by The Highland Council, Heritage Lottery Fund, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Rural Development Programme and sportscotland.

River Nevis Bridge 6
Ben Nevis, as the UK’s highest mountain, attracts thousands of visitors to Lochaber 12 months of the year so it is important that we provide people with the best and safest experience possible.
