Nevis Nature Network Update

NNN Partners

Between June 2024 and March 2025, we delivered an initial 9-month development-phase for our most ambitious nature restoration project to date. This was delivered in partnership with our landowning partners: JAHAMA Highland Estates, Glen Nevis Estate, John Muir Trust and Forestry and Land Scotland.

The aim of this phase was to bring in area experts on our four priority themes, to investigate the ecological potential of the landscape and inform us on what would be required to achieve this potential. We discovered that the Nevis landscape has huge potential for woodland and montane scrub restoration and expansion. Being located within the ‘temperate rainforest zone’, this landscape has the potential to become a stronghold for Scotland’s Rainforest. As a result of this finding, we have officially been accepted to become a ‘Focus Project’ in the Alliance for Scotland’s Rainforest. Check out our project page on their website.

We also gained an understanding of the resource that would be required to restore some of our most degraded footpaths on designated sites and remove invasive non-native plants. We brought together the key land management decision makers across the Nevis landscape to identify ways for us to work more collaboratively at a larger scale and deliver nature restoration. We are developing opportunities for the local community to get involved and benefit from this project. We are currently fundraising for a ‘consolidation phase’ which will then lead to an initial 10-year delivery project.
